Stability Calculations

The program updates all aspects of stability immediately any adjustment that will effect the distribution of weight is made by the user . The Stability results are displayed in several windows. The basic information is always available on the status line which is displayed along the base of the main window. This line is always visible irrespective of any other window or windows that may be open. If any aspect of the stability fails to meet statutory or class requirements, the data box showing the defective information displays a red warning background.

The STAB drop down menu presents the user with a number of options to display the stability results in more detail. The picture below shows the stability in detail and also the curve of statical stability.

The program normally accounts for the effects of liquid in slack tanks by using the free surface method of calculation. However, in vessels where stability is critical (such as F.P.S.Os with extensive machinery on deck) we can use the moving liquid method. This method requires extensive pre-calculated data for each tank to establish the precise centre of gravity of the liquid in any aspect of trim and heel. This method gives a more realistic value of transverse stability.

SHIPWRITE calculates and displays the LOAD DIAGRAM which identifies the maximum load in each hold corresponding to the draft at the mid point of the hold. The calculation is based on the rules of the Classification Societies.
