Shipwrite - Loading Computer System

Longitudinal Stress Calculations

The primary function of the SHIPWRITE Cargo Loading System is to calculate and present details of the shear forces and bending moments acting along the length of the vessel in any state of loading, discharging or ballasting.

This fuction of the program is essential in the loading operations of large tankers and bulk carriers where the correct sequence of loading is extremely important to avoid periods of high stresses which can have long term effects of weakening the integral longitudinal strength of the vessel.

In the short term, it is essential that the loading sequence never exceeds limiting shear forces or bending moments as specified by the appropriate Classification Society.

Energy Marine (INTERNATIONAL) Limited liase closely with the Classification Society to ensure that the SHIPWRITE meets with their requirements and receives their certificate of approval.

The program calculates both shear forces and bending moments at 120 equally spaced locations along the length of the vessel and at additional check points as required by the Classification Society. The results of these calculations are presented both in numerical and graphical format as shown in the displays below.

Sequence loading and Ballast exchange

The Stress diagram in conjunction with sequence load facility enables the user to identify a loading sequence which will ensure an acceptable trim, draft, shear forces and bending moments throughout the loading / ballasting operation.

This facility can also be used to establish an acceptable ballast exchange sequence

The program incorporates a facility to apply corrections to the shear forces as specified in the Classification Society rules on using bulkhead factors.

Note that in the event of any aspect of the stability or the longitudinal stress not meeting with either statutory or class requirements, the box on the status line which displays the offending information is displays a red background.

This feature can be seen in the display above.
